Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 4, 2026

Mongee is a local-first app for saving and organizing screenshots, links, and other reference items.

This policy describes how Mongee handles information. We may update it as the app changes.

What Mongee handles

The information Mongee handles depends on what you choose to save and which features you use.

  • Screenshots, photos, links, notes, collection names, edited titles, and other content you choose to save.
  • Metadata generated to organize that content, such as categories, dates, structured fields, and other item details.
  • Small app settings and preference data, such as Media Region, plan/pricing region, privacy-notice state, anonymous entitlement identifiers, cached subscription or support-access status, and local ad grace-period or frequency-cap counters.
  • Local usage records such as upload-event counts, place-enrichment counts, and other counters used to show plan limits or manage app behavior inside the app.
  • App usage and workflow data, such as app/session activity, broad feature events, upload workflow status, safe category/subtype snapshots, backend vendor/API usage, and ad consent or ad-serving state.

How information is collected

  • Directly from you when you pick a screenshot or photo, save a link, edit an item, create a collection, or add notes.
  • From the operating system when you share a screenshot, photo, or link into Mongee through the share sheet.
  • From the webpage you choose to save when Mongee fetches readable link content from the original site.
  • From service partners when Mongee asks them to classify, enrich, or display information related to the item you saved.
  • From billing, analytics, consent, advertising, and configuration providers when those features are used or initialized.

How information is used

  • To save, display, search, sort, and edit the items and collections you create in the app.
  • To classify and enrich saved content so Mongee can generate titles, categories, and useful structured fields.
  • To power category-specific features such as restaurant distance and media streaming availability.
  • To keep the app reliable, reduce misuse, and respond to support issues when they arise.

When information may leave your device

Some Mongee features use outside services so the app can fetch, classify, enrich, or display saved content.

Mongee can also send privacy-governed analytics so we can understand app reliability and broad feature usage. Analytics is not a cloud backup or sync copy of your saved library.

  • Original websites, when you save a link and Mongee fetches readable page content from that URL.
  • Mongee-controlled backend functions and product analytics systems, when Mongee sends screenshots, photos, cleaned link content, analytics payloads, or enrichment queries to process features you ask for and store privacy-governed product analytics such as upload workflow status, build channel, category/subtype snapshots, and backend vendor/API usage.
  • AI processing providers, to analyze screenshots, photos, and cleaned link content for classification and metadata extraction.
  • Places information providers, to enrich supported restaurant and travel items where available.
  • Media information and image providers, to enrich media items and display posters or provider logos where available.
  • Firebase / Google Analytics, to collect app/session analytics and coarse app behavior events. Mongee does not send saved item titles, raw URLs, screenshots, notes, collection ids, item ids, or extracted text to Firebase analytics.
  • Firebase Remote Config, to fetch ad kill switches, placement flags, test-mode flags, and other ad-safety configuration.
  • Google UMP and Google Mobile Ads / AdMob, to check ad consent state, initialize ad services, and request non-personalized ads for eligible Free-tier users.
  • RevenueCat and the Apple App Store or Google Play billing systems, if you purchase or restore a paid plan, to show subscription offerings, process purchases, restore purchases, and manage paid-plan access.
  • Original websites or their image CDNs, when Mongee displays a saved link preview image exposed by the page you saved.
  • External browser, maps, or mail apps when you choose to open a link, map, or support contact.

Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We do not use your saved screenshots, photos, links, notes, titles, collection names, or extracted text for ad targeting. Free users may see non-personalized ads, and paid tiers are ad-free.

Where ad consent choices are required or available, those choices may control whether ads are shown. If ad consent is declined, unavailable, unresolved, or an ad consent check errors, Mongee suppresses ads and keeps the Free tier usable.

  • With service providers that help operate the features described in this policy.
  • With external apps or websites when you choose to open content outside Mongee.
  • When required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or the service.
  • As part of a business transfer if ownership or structure changes in the future.

Permissions and controls

  • Photo-library access is used so you can choose screenshots or photos to save.
  • The share extension can receive the screenshot, photo, or link you intentionally share into Mongee so the app can save it.
  • Foreground location is requested only when needed to show distance to saved places, such as restaurants.
  • Media streaming availability uses a Media Region setting instead of precise location permission.
  • You can deny location and still use the app, except for distance-based features.
  • Ad consent controls may be shown through Google's UMP privacy messaging flow where required or available. You can decline consent; Mongee suppresses ads when consent is not available.

Storage and retention

  • Saved items, images, notes, metadata, and settings are stored locally on your device until you delete them or clear app data.
  • Mongee does not require you to create an account and does not provide cross-device sync.
  • Raw page bodies fetched from saved links are kept only during the current processing run and are not stored locally afterward.
  • Current location used for distance is kept in memory only and is not written to the local database.
  • Subscription and support-access state is stored locally as an anonymous entitlement identifier and cached entitlement status; raw internal support codes are not stored locally.
  • Ad grace-period and frequency-cap counters are stored locally so Mongee can limit when ads appear.
  • Analytics records may be retained by Mongee or analytics providers for reporting and product-improvement purposes, but they are designed to exclude raw saved content.
  • Some service providers may temporarily process data so they can return results to the app.
  • Deleting an item removes Mongee's local copy and local metadata for that item, but it may not delete analytics records, provider logs, billing records, consent records, or temporary processing records already handled by service providers.

International processing

Some service providers used by Mongee may process data in countries other than the one where you live. This can happen when screenshots, link content, enrichment requests, analytics events, ad consent or ad-serving data, or subscription information are sent to those providers.

If our processing setup changes, we will update this policy to reflect the new arrangement.

Legal bases

Where local law requires a legal basis for processing, Mongee generally relies on one or more of the following grounds:

  • Providing the feature you ask us to perform, such as saving, classifying, or enriching content.
  • Managing subscriptions, billing status, ad eligibility, consent choices, and app configuration where those features are available.
  • Operating, securing, and proportionately improving the app.
  • Complying with legal obligations and resolving disputes.

Your choices and rights

  • You can review, edit, or delete saved items inside the app.
  • You can change your Media Region from saved Media availability surfaces inside the app.
  • You can decline location access or turn it off later in device Settings.
  • You can contact us about access, correction, deletion, or privacy questions using the support contact shown on the Account screen.
  • Depending on where you live, you may also have a right to complain to a privacy regulator.

Security

We use reasonable steps to reduce unnecessary sharing, keep most saved content local, and limit sensitive logging.

In production, Mongee limits sensitive logging and redacts high-risk document and chat payloads where shared logging controls are used. Internal debug builds may expose more diagnostic detail when explicit debug privacy mode is enabled.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and no security measure can guarantee absolute protection.

Children's privacy

Mongee is not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly offer the service to them.

If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us using the support path shown on the Account screen.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we do, we will change the date at the top of the policy and update the in-app policy text.
